Recently, I was reading one of my favorite blogs and I got sucked into the archives (don’t you love when that happens?). I stumbled upon this post regarding storage of outdoor toys and I was inspired!
We recently bought these Expedit bookcases from IKEA. We purchased 4 of them and intended to line them up in the playroom to store toys.
However, we have NO bedroom furniture. My husband and I pretty much have a bed and a hodge podge of leftover furniture from throughout the house, and no real dresser to speak of.
So when I saw this great idea on IHeart Organizing, I was inspired to STEAL the big dresser in the kids room back…and stick two of our new Expedit Bookcases in the kids room! Better yet, let’s give the kids a bit more responsibility by making their clothing storage easy and visual enough so that they can help put their own laundry away!
I grabbed some clip art from Microsoft Online, played with it in Photoshop to make these really simple visuals of what goes into each container. I wrote the words on there as well since my 4 year old is starting to get the hang of sight reading.
I don’t own a laminator so I had to use contact paper, and I also cannot cut in a straight line, so my name/picture cards aren’t that pretty, but they do the trick! I used some short white wire ties that my husband had laying around to affix them to the containers.
We didn’t buy enough of the boxes that go into the bookcases, so we need to head back to IKEA to get 4 more to do Noah’s side (but it will be pretty much the same thing…minus the skirts & dresses!).
Isn’t this a cute idea!? It’s not super cheap, but it looks great and I’m very happy to finally have a dresser in my room again!
