I think I’m getting a reputation.

I think it’s a good one?

When I grocery shop by myself (and only by myself, when I’m with my kids I don’t have the time!) I like to browse and help others shop. I try not to be pushy, but if I see someone standing in front of something and really thinking about it AND I have a coupon for it that I don’t need, I give it to them. Randall’s seems to be the hot spot for this. Maybe because it’s so expensive?

Today, I was walking down the frozen food aisle and a woman came up to me. I vaguely recognized her, so my thoughts raced. Do I know her from church? Church where I work? The Y? A friend of my parents? A friend of my mother in law? (Can you tell I HATE forgetting people?)

She said Hi and the next words out of her mouth were “I was wondering if you could check your binder for a coupon for “x product””. Now, my binder wasn’t even with me today. Yet this women knew I had a binder!

How did she know this!

Apparently about a month ago we met in the frozen food aisle at Kroger and I helped her figure out how to do the Mega Sale deal. I do not remember this. She apparently does. She calls me the Sale Lady to her friends she says.

I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed? Proud? I think I’m just happy that I helped someone else learn the value of saving a dollar.

Long story not so short…I actually did not have that coupon. Luckily though Randall’s came out with a new coupon book that did have the coupon and I was able to tell her where in the store to grab it (GREAT coupon book at Randall’s right now, swing by and pick it up!).

I split my shopping into 2 days this week. 2 sick kids meant I could only shop when my husband was home and I wasn’t feeling too well myself.

I did Kroger and Randall’s this week. Neither had amazing sales, but I still did pretty good.

Saved Money at Kroger

Kroger:

Tuna was on sale for $.48 a can. Since it’s hurricane season here, I try to stay stocked on tuna. Can you tell we needed to use the milk right away?
Also picked up sausage, dishwasher packets, fruit, chocolate chips and some 75% off pastry. Huh, what? Oh, nothing.

Spent $30.17
Saved $8.64
Savings of 22%

Randall’s:

Saving Money at Randall’s

Whole Chickens are $.59 a lb right now at Randall’s. If I had the freezer space I’d buy 20. I am being 100% honest. That’s a fantastic price. The bread was on sale so I picked up 4 loaves (Orowheat…it looks pretty healthy, but we’ve never tried it before). 6 Valley Fresh Steamers that I had coupons for and were part of the buy 5 get $5 off promotion going on right now. Tortillas, some medicine, 2 freezer Healthy Choice meals that I got basically for free after discounts and coupons and some ancho chilies.

Spent: $35.71
Saved: $35.32
Savings of 50%

Total for the week:
Spent: $65.88
Saved: $43.96

You should be proud and thankful! Thankful that you have the couponing skills to be able to pass them on, and proud because you do so well that people remember you.

There used to be a time, where people got upset, if they got stuck behind me in the grocery line…now they are inspired.
