I like to think I’m a pretty good disciplinarian.

I discipline my kids consistently when I need to.

In fact, I bet they would say I’m GREAT at being a disciplinarian 😉 .

However, there’s one person I consistently struggle with disciplining.

Myself.

Sure, I have great discipline in some areas of my life.

I always make sure I get enough sleep. The consequences of too little sleep require me to be disciplined about going to bed on time.

I bathe, brush my teeth, take care of my hygiene without much thought. The consequences of not showering mean my hair is greasy and gross. The consequences of not brushing my teeth mean I have horrible breath all day.

However, what about those things in life that DO NOT have immediate consequences? Where I lack discipline because the result of letting things go isn’t so immediate?

√ I don’t work out consistently. Miss a day? NO big deal. Miss a week? It’s not going to kill you. Miss a year? That’s when you really see how it all added up.

√ I overeat far too often. This is not a big deal for one meal. Probably not a big deal for 2 meals. But over time, all those indulgences can really add up!

That’s why, when I heard one of my favorite bloggers had put out a series entitled: 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life, I knew I wanted to take one of those 2 habits and really work at it.

The only problem? I wasn’t disciplined enough to keep up with the series! Oh boy!

Well thankfully Crystal Paine (of Money Saving Mom) decided to release 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life in ebook format. This is what I need.

She’s made it easy for us! All the information is in one easy to read e-book. No excuses. You just go through day by day and work on those areas of your life that you struggle with discipline.

For me, that’s over eating and not exercising for now.

In time, I think I’ll also work on keeping the house clean and organizing my schedule weekly, but first things first!

Do you want to join me on this challenge to lead a more disciplined life?

Well, first off…Crystal has offered to give FIVE Family Friendly Frugality readers a FREE copy of 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life!

  1. Most definitely exercise! I want to run a 5k but between working and going to school full time at night I always make excuses for myself!

  2. I lack discipline in the area of cleaning my home and getting a solid routine down. I always am putting together “game plans” and I never follow through with them or they just do not work. I’ve gotten the attitude at times where I say, “why clean but it will just keep getting dirty”. Horrible attitude, I know. I also have a problem with paper. I guess I am a paper hoarder because I have piles upon piles of paper. Much of which can be tossed but I have a problem with throwing them away. Paper is the most clutter I have in my home. Like I said cleaning is where I fail. It is not so much things being clean because I do clean it’s more of the clutter of items on almost every surface that is available in the house.

  3. Before I had kids, I was really organized and on top of my finances. For one reason or another, I have lost that somewhere and desperately need to get back on track now that my daughter is in kinder b/c it added about 50 more things I need to take care of, lol!!!! I guess most of us have been there but that is where I need more discipline in my life.

  4. I struggle with doing anything for myself , I need to learn to set aside time for myself to excercise so that my medical problems are not so bad and I feel better with exercise. I need to disipline myself that it is ok to prepare food for myself that I like to eat such as veggies and salads whether my family likes them or not, if I like them than I can eat them as they make me more healthy. I need to disipline myself to relax and find out what I enjoy and then go do it.
My family and I both benefit when I can take care of myself

  5. My self discipline is not clothes shopping for myself! I get things for my husband, children and friends but when it comes to me… I pass things up because of the cost or I talk myself out of it. Its a struggle…

  6. I would definitely benefit from more discipline in my time management. By getting that under control, I will be able to have a successful daily schedule for myself and my kids. Things run so much smoother when you have a schedule. It takes the guesswork and randomness out of the day. Thanks!

  7. Thank you. I need to be more disciplined with myself in various areas. One of which is staying on track with my budget, that’s so hard in this economy. another is my time management and sticking to a routine. And of course i need to be more disciplined in eating healthier and exercising. of course these are just a fee of the many things i need to work on. 🙂

  8. I struggle with discipline in my life in all areas 🙁 I only work out 2 days a week. I don’t go to church every Sunday and I am terrible with keeping up with clutter, laundry, dishes and cleaning 🙁

  9. All kids grown an gone am 61 with bad knees an back issue an type 2 dieabetes Find it really hard to get motivated to do much of any thing. And have no one to help me here. So looking for ways to get more structured

  10. Oh dear, I’d have to say the biggest one is getting focused! I get too distracted and end up doing a little of a lot of things, rather than just focusing on one job at a time. Ugh!

  11. I need to get disciplined in my daily routine and house chores. I get sidetracked so easily that a book on organization and self discipline would be really useful.

  12. Since I started back to work (working the graveyard shift) my world has been turned upside down. I get some things accomplished but not as much as I used to. With 3 kids ages 7,10 and 17, activities, school, housework, remodeling, keeping up w financials, work, etc its hard to keep focused and get everything accomplished. I have a wonderful husband that helps me with things but i wish i could get down a good routine amd stick to it.

  13. I need discipline to do more stuff for myself. I am always too busy doing for the kids or the hubby instead of for myself.

  14. I struggle with spending too much time on the computer or TV. I currently have goals to watch only 2.5 hours of TV a day. I need to set a goal for the computer too.

  15. Hmmmmmm, hard to choose just one!
I have the most trouble saying no. I often find myself taking on too much, being volunteered for things, being taken advantage of…. Usually sacrificing my own time with my family, money and energy.

  16. I need to be better disciplined with making me my priority (working out, relaxation) and house duties (cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping). Thanks for the opportunity!

  17. 1. I NEED to be more disciplined in not using my credit cards for wants, not needs.
    2. I NEED to be more disciplined in taking care of my body with exercise and healhy foods.
    3. I NEED to be more disciplined in not playing on my computer when housework needs to be done.

  18. I think my biggest area that I need more disciplined with cleaning the house and keeping it clean.

  19. i need to be a more disaplined shopper/spender i but a lot of sale even if it’s not really needed i like to save money but thend to over buy
definatly need to be a more dedicated to health and exercise as well

  20. I struggle with reading my Bible every day. I have been better lately but still not disciplined enough to be consistent. I also need more discipline with stopping for a quick coffee or soda. It’s cheap until it becomes a habit.

  21. These are things I would not only NEED to be more disciplined in, but would LIKE to as well!
-Not eating out so much (Like you said with your comment about exercise.. “it’s just this once!” becomes “it’s just this week!”..next thing you know, I’ve spent $200 on lunches and coffee for the month!
-Getting rid of the excess (Maybe I’ll someday wear that shirt I haven’t worn yet so let’s keep it around!)
-Being more active (Not slaving away for hours at the gym persay, but just getting out and about instead of snuggling on the couch!)

    Love your blog, Heather!

  22. My issue is with keeping up with a projects details, Being more consistent with my kids, and balancing the budget!

  23. I am undisciplined in taking care if myself. I do not exercise nor do I watch what I eat. I have slightly elevated blood pressure and definitely could help myself by losing (a lot) weight. I love my kids and foster kids (we have 8 kids at home right now) and I devote the majority of my time and energy to them leaving me with little to no time to care for myself. I need to find a better balance.

  24. I take care of everyone but me…. Make sure everyone else has what they need but don’t have the discipline to make sure I have what I need….

  25. The lack of discipline has haunted me my entire life, in every area of my life. I struggle to be a good mom, good wife, good homemaker, good friend. What is it within us that make some people able to master the art of self discipline while other struggle. I’m in hope that there is an answer out there somewhere.

  26. I struggle with getting all the housework done all the time, really. Keeping it all under control with 3 busy boys is insane!

  27. Well – first and foremost I need to be more disciplined with my nutrition and exercise (healthy mommy is a happy mommy!). Then I need to be more disciplined in goal setting with hubby for our near and far future. It’s hard, but if I were concentrating on my future plans and the steps I need to accomplish to get there I wouldn’t still be stuck in a job I don’t love.

  28. I need to be more disciplined when it comes to cooking (increasing variety as well as healthy) as well as time management – sometimes not matter how hard I try to get things done they just dont.

  29. I need more discipline with time management when it comes to my home, and definitely with home organization. .

  30. I need to disciplined my time. Seems like I’m always running around and cooking, cleaning and never have any me time at all. I really need a good time management.

  31. I need more discipline with my diet and also with our homeschool and home improvement projects! My life all around would benefit from a bit more self-discipline. Thanks for the chance to win!

  32. I think the first thing I want to tackle is cleaning the house. I need much more discipline in that area of my life.

  33. I would have to say I need more discipline in several areas……exercise, time management with homeschooling and everyday time management. 🙂

  34. My struggle is definitely time management. Between my full time job, raising two kiss as a single mom, full time school (4 year degree in 2.5 years so closer to double time school!) and my business on the side, my schedule is packed!

  35. I need more discipline in life because growing up i always told myself i would not be as uptight as my parents and i would enjoy life more. i think i took it a little to far and now im kinda lost. wish i had more discipline in life for my self and for my kids.

  36. I need more discipline in cleaning my home and not getting sidetracked. Yes, I know my home needs more tender loving care, but I LOVE to talk on the phone, facebook and surfing the internet. I would LOVE the opportunity to WIN this book. Thank you so much for the opportunity for a chance to WIN! 🙂

  37. I struggle with being overwhelmed with things I need to get done. It can be paralyzing at times. I just need to keep plugging away at it!

  38. I struggle with managing my time properly. Sometimes I feel very unorganized and confused with work and family and I do not know what tasks I should do first.

  39. I really need more discipline in finishing a project before starting another one. I get all enthused about something and before I get it finished I start on something else that has grabbed my interest.

  40. I need the most discipline with saying NO to kids, stores and food. I always start out good but then I “fall off the wagon” to best describe it.

  41. I am not disciplined with providing structure for myself, which means that I should be more disciplined with getting work done around the house and working out. Also some long-term projects that never seem to get done.

  42. I struggle with discipline in my life. My top three areas are: time with God, housekeeping & finances. I am excited to read this book.

  43. I am not disciplined with working out either… I really need to get in a routine. I also over eat too much as well. If I could get a control on both of those and really get in the groove I think I would be much happier!

  44. I struggle with daily quiet time. I have 3 kids 7,6,and 1. I homeschool and run my family on a shoe string budget but cannot seem to find time to have daily quiet time
