The wardrobe budget for little girls can quickly get out of hand when you factor in accessories, especially girls dress shoes.
Shopping for boy clothes (and keeping it in check) can be pretty simple, but if you’re the type of person who needs the perfectly matching purse and shoes and hair accessory and jewelry, then shopping for a little girl can quickly become a pretty pricey endeavor.
Good news, though! Girls dress shoes can still be a bargain buy.
Here are a few tips for making it so:
1. Shop secondhand. (Have we drilled this tip into you enough yet, LOL?) It’s true, though. And shopping secondhand for shoes (especially girls dress shoes) is a solid money-saving tip. Dress shoes don’t get worn often in anyone’s wardrobe, especially kids – or least my kids anyway! So it’s a pretty safe bet that when shopping for dress shoes for your kids, you’ll be able to find a pair that’s in good condition and hasn’t seen a ton of wear. Be sure to check the bottoms and sides to make sure that scuffs are at a minimum.
2. Be ready to fix a few minor flaws. Are you looking for dress shoes that will only be worn once or maybe twice? Keep an open mind. You might find a pair in the perfect color for a steal… but then you see a scuff. Before putting them down and walking away, ask yourself a few questions. Is it in a spot that is easily hidden in photos? Are you able to negotiate a bigger discount because of the flaw? Can this scuff be pretty easily “fixed” for a one-time special occasion? For instance, you might find you’re able to literally “erase” that small scuff on a pair of girl dress shoes with an eraser, depending on the material. If you’ve answered yes to any of those questions, it might be worth it, if the savings is big enough!
3. Can you borrow? Like a bride on her wedding day, you might look for something “borrowed” for a one-time special occasion. Ask around to see if any of your mom friends might have a pair of gold sequin Mary Janes that would complete your little girl’s outfit perfectly before running to the store to buy a pair that you know will only be worn once.
On the flip side, be generous in lending out your baby girl’s red patent leather shoes once she’s outgrown them, as well.
