Today after church my family went out school shopping. I know, both of my kids are 3 and under, but we did it for another little boy. We don’t know him, but as my son said “he be real happy with Spiderman backpack now”. I think it’s important for my kids to learn the spirit of giving at a young age. We even had them “sign” the note we put in the backpack.
It’s called Operation Backpack and it’s sponsored every year by the Houston Area YMCA. The church we worship at is a designated drop off center as well. Unfortunately, I’m blogging about this a bit too late. Today is the deadline for turning in your backpack…oops! I guarantee though that there are other charities out there that need school supplies throughout the year and now is the perfect time to purchase them.
When you are out buying your school supplies, pick up a few extra! There are so many kids in need this time of year. They need clothes, shoes and most definitely school supplies. If you need help finding a charity in your area to bring your supplies to, let me know and I’m sure I can track a place down for you.
