Hello Family Friendly Frugalilty readers! I’m Carrie, vacation specialist with Destinations in Florida, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, and I visit you each week here on Family Friendly Frugality to share Disney planning tips and inside information to make your trip as magical as possible. I love hanging out on here every week with you, talking about the Happiest Place on Earth!
But as we all know, Orlando is home to Universal-Orlando Resort and Islands of Adventure. I know there are many Harry Potter, Despicable Me, Transformers, and other big screen fans out there! So let’s talk about saving time and money at Universal Orlando! Universal Orlando is a great add on to any Disney trip, OR even a fabulous vacation destination in and of itself.
Buy your multi-day Universal Tickets before you arrive. By doing so, you will save about $20 off the gate price of admission! Not only are you saving money off the gate price, but you don’t have to wait in line at the ticket windows. Another great perk is that you can print your ticket vouchers right at home and go directly to the entrance gates!
Purchasing your tickets in advance qualifies you for a FREE booklet of savings. You’ll receive up to $150 savings in food and merchandise just by printing the little voucher attached to your tickets. You’ll take the voucher, and your park tickets, to the Universal Studios Store or the Trading Company in Islands of Adventure to exchange it for a coupon booklet.
Stay on site. By choose to stay at Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Portofino Bay, or Hard Rock Hotel you will be able to enjoy unlimited ExpressPass options on your tickets. This allows you to the front of the line on select attractions.
Book your tickets as part of a Vacation Package. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Package is an excellent example of a Universal-Orlanod option for families. Not only do you get the benefits of staying on site at Universal, but you also get two breakfasts, your park tickets, and early entrance to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Universal also offers other packages, like the Two Park Getaway or the 7 Nights 5 Theme Parks package. Any of these will suit your family’s vacation needs!
Add a Universal Dining Plan to your package. The nice thing about Universal’s dining plans, is you can match them to your days in the parks. So if you have 4 day park tickets, but you only want 2 days of dining, consider it done! Universal offers a Quick Dining Plan and a Universal Dining Plan. Both are similar to the Disney Dining plans. These plans need to be added onto your resort and ticket package-they cannot be purchased in the parks.
At Citywalk, take a coupon book when you enter for savings on food and drinks. Citywalk is the entertainment and shopping area of Universal Orlando. When you enter Citywalk, they will have coupon books. You can enjoy Free Kids Meals, Free Appetizers or Desserts, etc. at several of the Citywalk locations.
