Have you ever wondered how they make soda?
Did you know you can actually make your own soda, sparkling water and flavored seltzer at home!
It’s called the SodaStream Soda Maker and we got to bring one home to review!
Here’s a bit of info:
Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a variety of colors and silhouettes, you’ll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any decor.
We reviewed the Jet:
The Jet soda maker comes in a range of bi-colored machines specially created to the colored pallete of any modern kitchen. Among the Jet features are: automatic access gas release mechanism, fits extra large carbonators – optional 100 liter aluminum cylinder, minimal space usage, customized carbonation level and easy to clean drip tray.
Our kit came with the Jet SodaStream Soda Maker, the carbonator, and quite a few sample flavors. It also came with 2 1-liter bottles.
The very first thing that surprised me when I received our soda maker is that it requires no electricity. You simply screw the carbonator into the machine and you are ready to carbonate your beverages!
All you need is cold water, your flavor of choice (or no flavor if you just want seltzer) and your SodaStream Soda Maker and you are just minutes away from a cold bubbly beverage!
We went to Walmart the other night and saw a HUGE display of the various flavors currently available. They included Cola, Diet Cola, Lemon Lime, Diet Lemon Lime, Ginger Ale, Cherry Cola, Kool Aid, Country Time Lemonade, and more!
You can purchase SodaStream Soda Makers at a large variety of stores:
The first few bottles of soda we made were okay, but they lost their carbonation quickly (went flat). I found out after talking to my mother in law (who also owns a SodaStream) that there were a few things we were doing wrong:
1. Start with cold water. Go ahead and make sure your water is chilled before you start!
2. Long pumps until the machine “belches” are what you want. 3-4 is best (we were doing 7-8 quick pumps because the “belch” noise made me think I was doing something wrong!)
Once we started implementing her advice…our soda was amazing! We actually intend to buy more bottles so we can have more flavors on hand at any given time.
Here are some of the primary reasons we enjoy our SodaStream Soda Maker:
1. It’s more economical. Just $.25 per liter of soda!
2. It’s more enviormentally friendly. No more wasted plastic bottles filling the landfills.
3. The flavors contain no high fructose corn syrup (most commercial sodas have a TON)
4. They are also lower in carbs, sugar and sodium!
We don’t typically allow our children to drink much soda, but we definitely feel better about giving them soda we make ourselves at home!
Here’s a video of us using it at home!
