Nutrisystem Weeks 9 & 10 In Review: Bad Girl But Getting Better!

It’s been 10 weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my weeks 9 and 10 in review! Yes, that’s right…2 weeks in one post? Why?

Because I was embarrassed.

I fell waaaaay off the wagon. Big time. In fact I gained quite a bit. 2 lbs. Luckily I strapped down and got back to basics in week 10 and I’m back down the 2 lbs I gained.

Which has me maintaining my loss from Week 8…but I’ll take it!

Things are still going well, this just seems to be a pattern for me. Usually it’s around 4-6 weeks I lost sight of my goals and slip into bad  habits. Luckily it wasn’t really slipping into bad habits that got me this time though.

I think it was kind of rebellion?

Regardless…it’s over and in the past and I’m ready to move on to bigger (or smaller as the case may be) things!

So now that we’re looking to the future, what needs to change? I admit I’ve let summer fun/work get in the way of being active. So I definitely need to step it up a notch in the purposeful exercise area. I’ve also let my water drinking slide. Which is very strange for me. I’ve always been a HUGE water drinker!

Tomorrow I have my follow up appointment with my endo to see if the thyroid meds I am on are at the correct doseage. I suspect they are not…so maybe getting that adjusted will help a bit as well.

Here are our stats currently:

Totals:

Heather – 15.9 lbs

Colin – 14.5  lbs

Nutrisystem Week 7 in Review: Just Chugging Along

It’s been seven weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my week 7 in review!

Mentally:

Doing pretty good! I might be getting too comfortable with things though! In fact this week, I really did feel like I was just chugging along.

Physically:

I feel good. Colin was really sick last week though and it threw our schedule off a lot. It was nice to have him home though.

My Thoughts:

I need to start varying up my fruits and veggies a bit more. I’m getting a bit bored of eating the same sides every night! If anyone has any good recipes to share or ideas, I’d love to hear them!

Boredom seems to be the death of dieting for me, so I need new and fresh ideas to keep things exciting!

Nutrisystem Week 6 in Review: I’m Stressed, Overextended and Emotionally Eating…Help!

It’s been six weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my week 6 in review!

Mentally:

This week was tough and I slipped up a lot. The kids aren’t going to Mother’s Day Out anymore and my husband has been really busy with work. Yesterday he had to do some side work to help a family member, and I’ll admit it, after a week of NO breaks…the pressure of having to do it all got to me. I way overate and unfortunately went to the grocery store while I was already feeling stressed and overextended. I need to have more breaks. That’s all there is to it. When I don’t, I go to food to help me cope. That’s not a good thing.

Sadly, I don’t see many breaks in my near future. I need to figure out some sort of compromise though, because emotional eating isn’t going to help me lose weight. I didn’t realize how much I relied on those 2 little breaks in my week for a sanity check!

Physically:

As a result of above, I’ve felt very tired and sluggish this week.

My Thoughts:

I am going to get back into gear this week and be a bit more selfish. I know that sounds bad! I need to be though. I need to take time for myself and not try to be the best at everything. I also need to start saying NO more often. I’ve been spreading myself too thin. It’s very interesting to watch how my emotions (specifically stress) play into my weight loss.

The food is still tasting good and I’m still LOVING the convenience of Nutrisystem.

In healthier news:

I wanted to take this opportunity to share something my buddy Meredith from Nutrisystem sent out to me. It’s about staying on track with Nutrisystem (or really any healthy eating plan!) during summer BBQ’s!

  1. Bring your “BBQ-esque” Nutrisystem meal of choice: Nutrisystem’s Hamburgers, Chicken and Hot Dogs are great on the grill! That way you still feel part of the BBQ eating festivities while staying on program
  2. Wheat rolls and buns –> this way you give everyone a healthier option
  3. Following the guidelines of your grocery guide – create a garden salad with all your favorite vegetables with various dressings on the side. That way everyone can choose what dressing is best for them, but the salad also allows you to get in your add-in additions while on program.  To make a complete meal, top with some grilled chicken.
  4. Grill some vegetables on the BBQ! A fun way to do this and to have the kids get involved, make vegetable shish kabobs! Then all that is left to do is toss them on to the BBQ and makes a great side dish (or condiment too!).
  5. Try to steer away from items drenched with BBQ sauce as this will only add in extra calories and typically is high in sugar and sodium.
  6. Make sure to have iced water on hand & toss in some slices of citrus fruits (i.e. oranges, lime and lemons) or even cucumbers too. This makes it different and is quite refreshing!
  7. For dessert you can have your Nutrisystem Dessert with the group, but also have a healthy option such as fruit salad or fruit kabobs for you and your guests. The kids can even help out with making them

Great tips! I definitely think those are all things I can keep in mind this summer as I continue my weight loss journey!

Nutrisystem Week 5 in Review: Thankful for a Great Support System!

It’s been five weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my week 5 in review!

Mentally:

It’s become just my norm! Honestly it’s becoming pretty thoughtless to eat this way. This is a double edged sword though. On one side, I need to be careful about becoming too complacent and slipping. On the other though, losing weight without having to think about losing weight is such a blessing!

Physically:

I have started a new workout regiment and other then being kind of sore and a bit hungrier, I feel great! More awake and alert for sure.

I have noticed that the soy in one of the desserts bothers my stomach, but that’s fine because next time I just won’t order that! Otherwise, I feel GREAT!

My Thoughts:

I’m still loving Nutrisystem. Now that I’m in month 2, I can say that I have a really good grasp on how the program works and I’m really able to embrace working the program. The truth is that Nutrisystem works. I’m slimming down and I’m getting healthier and it’s super obvious to everyone around me!

During the summer, my extended family tend to gather at my MIL’s house for family dinners on Sundays. It’s a fun time for all, but I was worried about how we were going to handle being the ones not eating what everyone else was eating. Would they still request us to bring items that are off our plan so that we’re contributing? I was nervous about being asked to make brownies or other tempting treats, knowing full well that that would be a struggle for me to turn down. I’m so thankful our extended family has been so understanding though! In fact, we joked that if we handle the food one week, everyone will just eat Nutrisystem. 😉

Having a good support system in place has been great!

Results of Week 5:

Heather -2 lbs

Colin -1 lbs

Totals:

Heather – 14.4 lbs (I WILL make 15 lbs lost this week!)

Colin – 11 lbs

Nutrisystem Week 3 in Review: What Do The Kids Eat & More Answers

It’s been three weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my week 3 in review!

First off, I wanted to take some time this week to answer some of the most common questions I get about being on Nutrisystem:

  • What do the kids eat? This is probably the #1 question that I am asked. The truth is, they eat what we eat. Let me explain:As you can see, the kids do not eat that differently then we do. In fact, they have always pretty much eaten this way. We’ve always been way better at balancing our children’s menus than our own 😉
  • It costs so much, I can feed my whole family for what 1 month costs for one person. How can you justify the cost? First off, I used to feel the same. Now though, I realize that’s kind of short sighted. You have to look at the big picture. Now if you have 10 lbs to lose…add in a few more veggies and take out a few treats and call it a day. But if you have a lot of weight to lose, and traditional dieting doesn’t work for you (for whatever reason: lack of self discipline, knowledge or your body has just become resistant to your constant yo yo dieting *cough cough*) it is a great option. Especially when you weigh it against other weight loss programs that are either just as expensive, more expensive or require surgical intervention. It’s an investment in your health. What you spend now might save you thousands in medical bills in the future. Now I’m not encouraging anyone to ditch the electric bill this month in order to join Nutrisystem. I’m just saying that investing in your health is always a wise decision.
  • Doesn’t it taste gross? No, it really doesn’t. I’m a big fan of food tasting good. That’s part of the reason why I am overweight. I guarentee I wouldn’t have lasted 24 hours on Nutrisystem if I couldn’t eat the food 😉
  • It’s not preparing you for the future. You will gain all the weight back. I vehemently disagree with this. If anything, Nutrisystem has taught me more about portion control then my parents, health class, previous diets…really anything. I know now what real portions SHOULD look like. If I go off the rails when I leave Nutrisystem behind, that’s my own fault. I really am learning what a real meal SHOULD look like. It’s been a mind blowing experience to be honest.

So I hope that answers a lot of the questions that might be weighing (teehee) on your mind about Nutrisystem!

Now onto this past week in review:

Mentally:

Really good. This has been a bit of a stressful week. I started back on my thyroid medication this week and I just felt strange. Mentally though I felt pretty good. Sticking to Nutrisystem wasn’t hard at all, although I did struggle with laziness a few times when it came to preparing my vegetables.

Physically:

Okay. I’m not hungry at all. I have decent energy, but I just started on this thyroid medication and I think that was screwing with my energy quite a bit this week. Hopefully things stabilize soon.

My Thoughts:

I need to start exercising. I only maintained this week. I didn’t lose at all. Now the silver lining is that I didn’t GAIN at all, but I didn’t lose either. I have not been exercising though, and I know that’s an important part of weight loss. I was giving myself time to get used to the program before I really incorporated exercise. This week I’m adding exercise in.

I’m hoping that this helps me with my weight loss AND my lack of energy. I want to stress the lack of energy is not due to a lack of food. If anything, I’m eating MORE food now on Nutrisystem then I ever did before. It’s just the RIGHT food.

Results of Week 3:

Heather -0 lbs

Colin -.8lbs

Nutrisystem Week 2 in Review: Some Revelations

It’s been two weeks since I started Nutrisystem, so here is my week 2 in review!

Mentally:

I’ve felt pretty good this week mentally, but I’ll admit I was a bit more restless then the previous week. I think losing 10 lbs in one week messed with my head just a bit. I expected to feel a bit better, be a bit skinnier, fit into my clothes better and honestly because I only felt all of those things slightly…I started convincing myself that the first week was a fluke and that it wasn’t going to work for me (Nutrisystem).

These are the mind games I always play with myself though, and I’m glad I can recognize that. I’m VERY self deprecating. Just ask anyone who knows me. I can never just say something good and leave it at that, I always have to follow it up with a negative to negate it. Confidence is going to be my biggest battle in this weight loss process. More so then hunger, deprivation or obstacles out of my control. I am simply not a confident person. Even the success of this blog freaks me out!

However, because I know this about myself, I think I have an edge over those who don’t realize that they have an overall lack of confidence. I just need to surround myself with positive and supportive people and those that intend to lift me up instead of tear me down.

Physically:

Really good! My ONLY complaint is that my stomach hurts a bit each night. I know that’s the increase in veggie and fiber intake though and I assume that will subside soon. Even feeling bloated though, I feel thinner.

My Thoughts:

Things are going good. I’m doing well. I am getting to the point where I’m about to order my next shipment of food and I DEFINITELY will be ordering some different things. There are some items that I absolutely loved and a few (although not many), that I never want to order again. I think next month will be even more fun because I will have all my favorites on hand and there will be less uncertainty when I grab a meal from the pantry!

I’ve had the most disappointments with dinners. I’ve loved all breakfasts and all but one lunch. Dinners though, I’m noticing that I don’t enjoy ones that include mashed potatoes. I think I’m just too much of a mashed potato snob!

Overall though, I can’t believe how easy and effortless losing weight on Nutrisystem has been. Mentally I get tripped up sometimes, but the diet is too simple to screw up, LOL.

I feel 100% confident that at the end of these 4 months I will down a significant amount of weight (although I’m sure I won’t get to my goal, I have a long journey ahead of me!).

My Revelation

We went to Old Navy recently and I walked in and looked around the store in a way I haven’t looked around it in years. I looked at the clothes knowing that very soon, I will fit back into those clothes. I haven’t allowed myself to look at clothing like that in a long time. It just hurt too much. With Nutrisystem though, I know I’ll be back to fitting into Old Navy clothes in no time…maybe even within the next 4 months! Very exciting.

Colin:

Colin is doing excellent. He makes his lunch for work the night before and has been seriously disappearing before my eyes. He has lost close to 6 lbs now and I am fairly certain all 6 have come from his stomach. Lucky guy!

He is more active and more willing to run around and do fun things as a family. I might be the heavier one, but I’ve ALWAYS been more active then my husband. Nowadays, I’d say we’re about equal. It’s been great!

Week 2 Results:

Heather -1.4 lbs

Colin -2.8lbs

Nutrisystem Week 1 in Review: Psst I lost BIG!

It’s been one week since I started Nutrisystem and I figured it was time for a quick review of how I’m doing and how much I’ve lost!

Mentally:

I have some stressful things going on in my life right now, but in regards to eating and Nutrisystem specifically? Awesome. I am feeling awesome. Amazing. Incredible. Energetic!

Mentally, this is the easiest diet I’ve ever been on. Maybe because it takes a lot of the thinking out of my hands? They tell me what to eat, and I eat it. It’s awesome. I tend to overthink things and obsess, especially when it comes to food. I don’t think I’ve ever described a diet as free-ing…but that’s the best way to describe it. I am finally free from the constant decisions of what to eat, when to eat, etc.

I have to admit, I usually crack about 3 days into a diet. Like bawling and begging my husband to take me somewhere to get a sandwich. The 3rd day on Nutrisystem simply came and went, no big deal.

Colin is doing pretty well. He’s never been on a diet, so this is all very new and different for him. He seems really excited about it though and is VERY committed (tell me how you can spot a new dieter? They take everything VERY seriously. “I don’t think this is a medium apple, it seems large to me.”).

Physically:

Clear. My whole body just feels cleaner and clearer. My focus is better and I feel lighter. My skin is doing great, my stomach feels flatter (although it’s got a LONG way to go to ever be flat) and I just feel like I’m walking taller and more confidently.

My Thoughts:

Something about Nutrisystem really really agrees with me. My body is in love with this diet. I had some hunger issues the first few days, but once I got used to what I was eating and how much…it’s like everything just fell into place. I was hungry at meal times and pleasantly satiated after (never full though). I’ve always suspected that I have insulin resistance (I go back to get my blood results from the endo in a week), and a low GI diet is generally recommended for people that have insulin resistance.

Nutrisystem is based on the science of the Glycemic Index:

So, what’s our secret? Simple—we’ve got science on our side.

Nutrisystem is based on the proven science of the Glycemic Index, and eating low-GI meals 5 to 6 times a day helps keep your blood sugar and metabolism stable, so your body burns calories more effectively.

Plus, we’ve found a way to make dieting doable by providing you with the foods you love-minus the guilt.

Menu staples like Lasagna, Mac & Cheese, and chocolate are given a good-for-you spin with fiber, protein and good carbs to help control cravings and keep you feeling satisfied, then packaged into just the right portion size so you never go overboard.

All in all, it’s a complete, balanced approach to losing weight and living healthier.

I don’t know why, but my body just *gets it* with this Nutrisystem.

I mean it must…because I lost……

Drumroll please!

10 lbs in my first week on Nutrisystem!

I kid you not. Now, I’m not naive. I know quite a bit of that is water weight. I also know that I had a lot of “last meals” in the days leading up to starting so my starting weight might have been a bit higher then normal.

You know what else I know? 10 lbs is pretty darn motivating.

I am going to do it this time.

I’m not going to lie, during the moments this week that I came close to slipping (not many, although my husband and I did have an off plan meal for date night) I thought of all of you. How I wanted to report a big number to  you and I wanted you to be proud of me. That pulled me through in those moments where MY resolve wasn’t strong enough.

So thank you! All of you!

Colin lost 3 lbs this week! I am SO proud of my husband. He is a rockstar and he is my rock!
