Kids Activity: Popcorn Ball Names w/ M&M’s and Pretzel Sticks (Plus Popcorn Ball Recipe!)

Disclaimer: I received this popcorn ball kit from GoodCook for free. All opinions are my own.

Head on over to GoodCook for more popcorn ball tips

Recently I was sent one of the coolest review kits I’ve received as a blogger.

It was a popcorn ball kit from GoodCook!

This package was filled to the brim with goodies galore!

My absolute favorite was the Popcorn Baller though.

Seriously!?

There is a way to make popcorn balls that doesn’t involve burning the crud out of your hands? SIGN ME UP!

My daughter was very excited about this GoodCook Popcorn Ball kit as well. Since we were planning a playdate with some friends of hers, she asked if we could make popcorn balls for her and her friends.

Now I have nothing against Popcorn Balls for the sake of Popcorn Balls, however…

This was an “educational” preschool playdate.

So you know I had to find a way to incorporate our popcorn balls into some kind of learning activity!

All the kiddos that were going to be at the playdate were going to be around 4 years old.

Prime “Learn to Spell Your Name” age!

We decided to incorporate pretzels and m&m’s in our Popcorn Ball name activity.

I did NOT put pretzels into the popcorn ball simply because I was nervous that the 4 year olds would choke on them if they were hidden in the ball.

So we just added the m&m’s to the popcorn mixture prior to shaping the popcorn into balls with the Amazing Fantastic Incredible GoodCook Popcorn Baller!

Next, we put some pretzel sticks and m&m’s in a small cup and wrote the first inital of each child on a popcorn ball.

Then during the party, they had to “create” the rest of their name with the m&m’s and pretzels!

This was actually a great hands activity for the 4 year olds because they had to troubleshoot which letters were made more easily with pretzel sticks and which ones could only be made with M&M’s.

It was so fun!

The popcorn balls were great, and I know we’ll make some more (less educational, ha!) in a few weeks for Halloween.

Here’s the recipe we used:

Popcorn Ball Recipe

Ingredients:

    • 2 (8 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
    • 8 tablespoons butter
    • 8 cups of popcorn (I popped on the stove with coconut oil)
    • 1 bag of M&M’s (my daughter separated these out by color)

Directions:

Pop your popcorn however you like

Melt the marshamallows and butter together on the stove

Pour marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and mix well. Allow to cool slightly.

Add in M&M’s and stir

Use a large spoon or rubber spatula to add the popcorn mixture to your GoodCook popcorn baller

Use the popcorn baller as directed (be sure to spray the inside with some nonstick spray for easy removal)

Allow to set!

Enjoy!

An Epic Outdoor Adventure Party: Swimming, Dirt Cups, a Birthday and an #EpicParty

This past weekend we had a fun movie screening right in our own home!

Have you heard of the movie Epic?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was offered the chance to throw an #EpicParty in my home with my friends and family.

Since my nephew was turning 6, we decided to do a joint birthday/Epic movie screening extravaganza!

We had the kids snuggle up on the couches with some buttery popcorn while my husband figured out how to hook my laptop up to the big TV (I was given a Digital HD download of the movie, and we knew watching on my laptop would have been a bit uncomfortable for this large crowd!). They each grabbed a big stuffed animal and got ready for the Epic Movie premiere!

Later, we went on a fun nature hunt! The kids loved using magnifying glasses to catch creatures in the back yard. We had fun little “traps” for the creatures that had magnified lids. They were so neat!

The kids also got to do a little gardening with these fun little Epic gardening cups. The cups came with a small disc of dirt and a packet of basil seeds. They had a blast adding the water to the cups and seeing the soil expand!

I know they are all excited about seeing their seeds grow, and I’m personally excited about having fresh basil in our backyard 😉 .

Next it was on to dirt cups (pudding, crushed oreos and gummy worms!) and of course birthday cake and ice cream for the birthday boy!

Of course, you know we had to jump in the pool in this August Texas heat!

We had a fun Epic Party outdoor adventure and you can do the same!

Remember you can grab Epic on Blu-Ray/DVD on August 20th!

What would you do at your own Epic Party outdoor adventure?

Disclaimer: I have been provided with the goody bags, a movie download and a gift card to have this party. No other compensation has been received and all opinions are my own.

Pre Party Planning Jitters: Planning an Epic Outdoor Party #EpicDay

Have you heard of the animated film Epic?

From the creators of Ice Age comes the year’s funniest, most exhilarating animated adventure! Transported to a magical world, a teenager (Amanda Seyfried) is recruited by a nature spirit, Queen Tara (Beyoncé Knowles), to help the “Leafmen” save their existence – and ours – from evil warriors. The whole family will love this fast-paced thrill-ride, with its astonishing animation and an all-star voice cast that includes Colin Farrell, Oscar® Winner Christoph Waltz and Steven Tyler! Available on Blu-ray & DVD August 20.

Well, I was recently offered the awesome experience of holding an Epic Digital HD Outdoor party! We’ll likely view the film indoors and then head outside for a fabulous pool party/nature hunt!

My adorable nephew is going to be turning 6, so this will be a birthday party for him as well.

Through my partnership with Fox Home Ent Insiders, I was sent enough party packs for all the kiddos invited to attend the party.

Each party pack includes the following:

  • 1 flashlight
  • 1 magnifying glass
  • 1 woven tote bag
  • 1 hot cocoa set (includes mug and hot cocoa mix)
  • 1 bug viewer
  • 1 grow kit
  • Epic activity sheets (you can find these activity sheets here, here and here)

Now obviously we will do some of the activities on the activity sheets! I especially think the nature hunt will be super fun for our group of kiddos.

My nephew also wants ice cream sundaes! I think that will be the perfect treat after our nature hunt!

Using what we’ve been given, what else do you think we should do? Do you have any suggestions for food or drinks? Comment below and help us plan our Epic Outdoor party!

You can also have an Epic party of your own! You can purchase similar supplies or just plan your party around the movie theme. There are plenty of activities and games on the Epic website.

Here’s a clip from the film for your enjoyment!

Stocking Up on Paper Products & a $4 VUDU Movie Credit! #ScottValues

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias®  and Scott Shared Values #cbias #SocialFabric. All opinions are my own.

If your family is anything like my family, you fly through paper products. Yes, paper products are a necessary purchase around here and I don’t see us moving to re-usable toilet paper anytime soon so I’m fairly certain it’s an expense that is going to stick around.

Thankfully, I try hard to get good deals on paper products and our favorite paper brand makes that pretty easy.

We love Scott bath tissue (and we’re pretty new to their paper towels but we like them too!) and now that they have their Scott’s Shared Values program, we find ways to save all the time!

Here’s some info about Scott’s Shared Values:

At Scott® brand we are all about bringing more value to your life. That’s why we created Scott® Shared Values, a program that offers unique deals, coupons and rewards to members. Signing up is free and takes only a minute. From there you pick and choose what values are right for you.

Recently, I learned that you could get a $4 VUDU movie credit when you purchased specially marked Scott bath tissue and paper towels. So I headed off to Walmart with my trusty shopping partner and we picked some up.

Redeeming my credit was pretty easy. Here’s how:

I chose Paperman, the Pixar Digital Short. We love it!

Do You Need a #FresherCar? FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filters and Walmart #cbias

Disclosure: I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias®  and FRAM #cbias #SocialFabric. All opinions are my own.

Allergy season is upon us and I’m so sick of it. Yesterday, on the way home from a fun family outing, my husband’s eyes were so itchy I actually begged him to pull over so I could drive!

My allergies aren’t quite as severe, but I wanted to see if there were ways I could make the air in our car fresher.

You know your car has an air filter. However, did you know there is also an in cabin air filter? If not, you might want to check where your in cabin air filter is. Chances are, it’s possible you have never changed it!

FRAM makes a Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter with Baking Soda and I was able to find one for my make and model vehicle. (see if there is a FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filter available for your vehicle here)

FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filters are available at Walmart, so this meant my daughter and I took a quick trip to our local Walmart.

  •  Premium Efficiency – Filters 98% of dust, pollen, and other contaminants*
  • Odor Absorption – Arm & Hammer baking soda combined with carbon embedded into the filter assist in cleaning outside air flowing through the vehicle’s ventilation system.**
  • Outside air that flows through your vehicle’s air conditioning, heating and ventilation system can expose passengers to contaminants such as road dust and pollen.
  • FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filters can filter 98% of these contaminants* from the air passing through the filter to improve your driving comfort.

Did you know the air inside your car could be dirtier than the air outside your car? That’s disgusting! With FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filters you can be sure you are breathing clean, fresh air and that you are doing all you can to keep the allergy monster at bay.

When I got home with my new air filter (and a few other goodies…never can go to Walmart and get just one thing!), it was time to install it. Thankfully I was able to watch a helpful video on the FRAM Fresh Breeze website that showed me exactly what to do.

First I had to remove the old air filter though.

Um, yuck!

Look at the difference. This is something I’m going to have to keep on top of!

Installing my air filter was fairly simple. It was in kind of an awkward spot, so I’m glad I waited until I got home and didn’t try to do it in the Walmart parking lot 😉 .

FRAM recommends you change this air filter once or twice a year, so I went ahead and plugged the event into my Google Calendar (because let’s face it…I have total mommy brain!).

If you are interested in checking out FRAM Fresh Breeze air filters, you can check on their website to see if they have one for your vehicle, or just use the in store catalog (like I did) to find which air filter you need.

If you purchase an air filter AND an oil filter, you can also send away for a $4 mail in rebate.

Also, be sure to follow FRAM on Facebook.
