I’ve been really trying to take better/more interesting pictures for the site lately (specifically for my recipes). I find a really good picture can make the difference between a recipe people love and want to try and a recipe that ends up being a total dud. The dud recipe could be awesome! But if the picture wasn’t awesome, it doesn’t seem to encourage people to try it out.
Which is a bummer, but I get it!
Food is just as much a visual thing as a taste thing. Especially when you are trying out new recipes.
It’s been fun, and you can see the difference between an early recipe on the site:
Compared to a more recent one:
I have a long ways to go, but I think my time and money investment is paying off!
At the end of the day though, I’m still a bit of a penny pincher (although I will fully admit to spending more for quality when necessary! Hence the nice camera and spiffy new lenses (that I definitely did NOT pay full price for) and I can’t justify spending a ton of money on a new tablescape for every recipe I post!
Today I headed on over to The Thrift Store (there are tons around here and I love to hit each of them up at least once a month!) and found some adorable plates and a ton (I mean a TON) of placemats and tablecloths.
I also found 2 baskets I plan to paint (and use as decor) and a couple of games for the kids.
All for under $20!
Not too shabby 😉
My next project to better my photographs is likely going to be making my own light box.
Have you had any great scores at the thrift store lately? Tell me in the comments! Or…Email me a pic of your thrift store finds (heather @ familyfriendlyfrugality.com) and I’ll post it to the site!
