Tot Tuesday is a weekly feature where I highlight a special kids activity, frugal recipe for kids, kids tutorial, etc.
I have worked with kids since I was a kid myself. I’ve always had a passion for doing arts and crafts and letting kids explore the world through art. It’s interesting, because I can barely color in the lines…but I digress.
For a few years, I’ve done an art project with the kids in my mothers day out class that involved making a handprint Christmas tree! Last year we went all out and we made a hand print Christmas tree for every child in our class with all of their friends hand prints on them too! (yes that means each kid had to put their hand print on paper 11 times!) It was a big hit, and I got nostalgic for this craft recently (I am no longer working at the mother’s day out program…I’m missing my crafty outlet!).
So I decided to give it a try with my two kiddos! We had a blast, and got very messy, but it was worth it!
1. Pick two colors of paint (at least, otherwise your tree might just look like one big color blob!)
2. Dip your childs hand in the paint (or put on with a paintbrush) and have them put 3 handprints in a row (you can alternate colors for each handprint, or just alternate row by row)
3. On the next row, center two handprints above those three
4. Flip the page around and put one last handprint on the top facing the other direction.
5. Tada!
I know, my tutorials aren’t the greatest! It’s a fun craft though, and I encourage you to try it out! Noah didn’t think his looked enough like a tree, so he asked me to draw a tree around it.
Enjoy!
