I don’t live in an area where good grass fed beef and grassland poultry is easily accessible. There’s generally some overpriced meat available at my local grocery stores, but the cost is practically prohibitive for “normal” folks (like me!).
I’ve often thought about just sucking it up and buying a 1/4 or 1/2 cow from a farm a couple of hours away, but I worry about making that investment. Houston is hurricane prone, and we’ve been without power for a week or more at a time many times!
One day, I was thinking about a popular meat (steak) delivery service and figured if THEY could ship their beef by mail, surely someone was doing the same with good “Happy Cow” meat as well?
It didn’t take me long to stumble onto U.S. Wellness Meats!
When I read their mission:
Our mission is simple: Do what’s good for our animals, good for our planet and good for you.
I knew I was in the right place!
Their pricing was fair and the food looked good. I’m a try before I buy kinda gal though, so I contacted them to see if they might be interested in a review. If this site was the goldmine I thought it was, I knew I would want to share the news with my readers!
So I emailed them and they quickly emailed back. They sent me the variety pack pictured above.
I admit, I was skeptical when I pulled up to my house and saw a brown box sitting at my front door. It was hot outside and the box felt super hot as well. I opened the box and pulled out the white freezer compartment. Oh boy, it was warm as well!
I was so scared that I’d open up this box and smell disaster, but instead I was greeted by a great breeze of freezing cold air! The meat was still frozen solid and it looked perfect!
The ingredients were the REALLY exciting stuff though. Here are the ingredients on the beef franks:
–beef, water, sea salt, spices (pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, mace), turbinado sugar, paprika, beet powder, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onion
See if you can find a package of hot dogs in the grocery store with simple and pronounceable ingredients like that! Go on…I dare you!
It (obviously) took us a bit over a week to eat all the meat in the package. Some of it was grilled, some of it was cooked on the stove top and some of it was cooked in the oven.
It was all AMAZING. I can now understand why people who eat grass fed beef and free range chicken never turn back!
We will definitely order from U.S. Wellness Meats again and I encourage you to check them out as well!
The best part of this whole review though? They want to share the love with YOU as well!
