So I posted really early on about how I organize my coupons via the binder method. I started off small, and pretty quickly realized I would need a nice big binder.
I bought a REALLY nice Case-it Large Capacity Light Pink Zipper Binder (D-145) (that one isn’t available anymore, but this potential Coupon Binder is!) for only $9 at Target, and I loved it. It was like my pet project for quite some time.
Than I got lazy. It started innocently enough. Seriously, one Sunday I bought the papers and instead of rushing to the kitchen table after church to clip and sort all of my coupons…I left them. I intended to come back to them later, but somehow they got shoved into a cabinet.
Until next Sunday. When I bought more papers…and this Sunday there were FOUR inserts. I buy 3 papers at a time, so by this point I had 21 inserts worth of coupons to cut. I pretty abruptly decided I was going to try out the “no clipping” method of coupon organization. You write the date on the insert (isn’t it strange how inserts don’t have dates on them?) and file it away.
I have done that over a month now. And this is what I now have:
A stack of inserts with not a coupon clipped (well I got fed up a bit ago and started clipping some of them, it’s going to be a week long project I’m sure!). I weeded through my binder today to pull out all the expireds and it’s like a ghost town in there.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that I need the visual reminder of clipping and organizing the coupons week to week. It’s an accountability thing for me. Since I am not organized by nature, I really have to force it. Clipping and organizing the coupons forces me to look at them, acknowledge them and somewhat remember what I have. It also makes it WORLDS easier when I am flipping through the store ads and want to remember if I have a coupon for something.
I know the file “no clipping” method works for so many people. It just simply doesn’t work for me! So back to the binder method I go. Wish me luck on cutting and filing my backlog of inserts. I’m going to need it!
I’m hopping all over the place this Wednesday. Come hop with me.
