Did you know that even if you don’t have Microsoft Office, you aren’t stuck with notepad for all of your word processing needs?
Sure there is OpenOffice , which is a fairly robust open sourced program that you can download to your computer:
Apache OpenOffice is the leading open-sourceoffice software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.
OpenOffice is honestly great and I love it.
However, there is something I love even more and it ties into my love for all things Google!
Google Drive (formerly known as Google Docs). *Cue fireworks and cute bunnies!*
Google Drive is a place where you can upload photos, videos, documents, and other files that are important to you to Google Drive.
Everyone gets 15GB of storage for free to start off with.
Let me tell you, this is a LOT of room.
Here are some reasons I love it:
- I can easily share documents with friends, family or the public (my free ebook Save Money in 7 Days is actually a PDF I uploaded to Google Docs!)
- I can just as easily keep documents private
- I can view my documents on my phone, tablet, basically any device that I can use to log into Google with.
- People can easily share documents with me and we can collaborate within the document. For instance, right now I am working on the Student Directory advertising for my PTA. I am a co-chair for this committee, so I need to share the list of advertisers with my partner. Google Drive makes this super simple.
- Updates are made in real time. I don’t have to upload anything to sync. I make a change and it shows up on ALL of my devices.
- I have not used it in this way…but I could see this being GREAT for “team” projects at school or at work. I’m fairly certain my husband uses it that way for his work.
- I can create Giveaway Forms with it.
I am well aware that not everyone has a Google account, and yes…you will need a Google account to use Google Drive.
I think it’s VERY worth it though.
What do you think? Do you use Google Drive? What do you use it for?
FYI: Google is (unfortunately) not paying me a penny to talk about them here. I was chatting with a friend today and she had NO idea what Google Drive was! Which lead me to this post. I big puffy pink heart Google products so it was a post I enjoyed writing. I hope it helps!
