My Story

My motto is that I save wherever I can on our essentials, so I can spend our hard earned money making memories and enjoying life!

I’m just going to be honest, before I learned how to strategically use coupons…it was not out of the realm of possibility for me to walk into a grocery store every week and walk out $250-$300 poorer.

Was I buying junk?

No…not really.

Was I intentionally spending that much money on groceries every week? Absolutely not. I had a budgeted amount to spend. I was just incapable of sticking to it.

So what happened?

How did I go from grocery store flunkie to How To Save Money in 7 Days E-Book writer?

Hi, My name is Marcia Freeman and I live in Austin. I have been couponing for about 2 months now. I have a pretty good pile of coupons and I have been able to get some good deals. I am pretty comfortable with using coupons and somewhat know the in’s and out’s. I do however have one question that for some reason I can’t find the answer to anywhere. When using a coupon that states ex: $1 off when you buy 2, how to you properly use this coupon? Can you buy 2 and use 2 coupons to receive a total of $2 off or do you have to buy 4 to get $2 off? Please explain so that I know that I am using my coupons right and effectively. Thanks!

That’s a VERY common question. If a coupon states that you have to buy 2 to use the coupon…you can only use one coupon for every 2 products.

If the coupon states you have to buy 4 to use the coupon, you must buy 4 and can only use 1 coupon per 4 items.

1 coupon per item unless stated otherwise is pretty much the standard rule.

Now, if you have store coupons as well, you can stack those. So say you have a manufacturer coupon that states $2 off 2 bags of chips. You can only use one of those coupons for every 2 bags of chips that you buy. BUT if you have store coupons for those same bags of chips that say $.50 off 1 bag of chips…you could use one store coupon per bag of chips as well.

So theoretically you could have 2 bags of chips and use 3 coupons.

      I hope that helps!

To use a coupon that states $1/2…you must buy 2 of the product to use that particular coupon.

You will only receive $1 off the total of the 2 products combined, not $1 off each product.

So yes, you’ll have to buy 4 using 2 coupons to get $2 off.

Unfortunately, I do not have a Rite Aid on here, so my information is pretty basic and limited to what I have read online. Sorry!

couponing is very confusing….how do i know how many coupons i can use for instance the coupon says 1 per perchace but u buy 6 of the same item can u use 6 coupons

Typically, you can use 1 coupon per item.

For instance…if you have 6 of the following coupon:

      $1/1 bag of skittles

You can buy 6 bags of skittles and receive $1 off (some places do have limits on how many like coupons you can use, so be sure to check each store’s coupon policy!).

      NOW if that coupon stated:

      $1/2 bags of skittles

You would have to have 2 bags of skittles per coupon.

Some coupons also have verbiage such as:

$1/1 Pantene conditioner When You Buy Pantene Shampoo

This coupon confuses some, because even though it states $1/1…you actually have to buy 2 products to use the coupon.

Does that make sense? I encourage you to read through all of the posts here and let me know if you have any questions!

Hi!! I’m so green at all this coupon stuff. I am a mother of 4 kids and my fiancee will be on disability starting July 1st. So our income is getting cut alot. I have decided that I need to get serious about this. Any money saved is a great thing! Any advice for a newbie like me? I’ve looked over your ways to organize coupons and I have decided that the binder would be best for me. I put mine together today. I”m excited but nervous at the same time.

I think just take it slow, one store at a time! Get to know the policy of each store you shop at and once you master one store move on to the next one.

A binder is great, just don’t get overwhelmed! Small trips at first and don’t expect to save a ton right out of the gate. As you build your stockpile you’ll find you are going to spend less and less money!

      Best of luck!

I tried to subscribe to read your book and I am being required to jump through hoops to do so. I registered for the website like the link asked, then it wanted credit card information that I will not give. Is this all correct or did I do something wrong?

I found this really cool app for my phone called ‘Mobile Wallet+’. It is suppose to save your store cards and coupons. I was wondering if having the coupons on my phone would be acceptable for places like smiths.

It’s up to the store policy, but many stores do accept it as long as it scans.

I have yet to really coupon yet, but its something I do want to get into, BEYOND that, i do have a great idea to kinda add to this. I do samples, i have devised a system to get samples of sooo many items. Well OFTEN with my sample is a very HIGH value coupon/s for said item. So not only have I got the first product free, but also have a coupon for my next purchase of said item, if I so choose to buy it.
Secondly but how do you get past the costs of GETTING the coupons,<printer ink, paper, buying several newspapers, gas driving to 6 different stores. Obviously im basing my observations on the shows ive watched, but often not all things needed are bought in a trip say on "extreme couponers" They may buy 200 packs of tic tacs, or 100 bottles of advil, but what about the everyday needs,

Quite honestly, I don’t coupon to those extremes. But I know that the people that do basically make it into a career. Time is money so they devise ways to make sure they make the most of it. My stockpile fits nicely in my pantry and beyond that is more than I care to manage.
