I recently was invited to attend a pre-screening of X-Men: First Class.
X-Men: First Class unveils the epic beginning of the X-Men saga – and a secret history of the Cold War and our world at the brink of nuclear Armageddon. As the first class discovers, harnesses, and comes to terms with their formidable powers, alliances are formed that will shape the eternal war between the heroes and villains of the X-Men universe.
My Review of X-Men: First Class
The movie was excellent. We’ve been fans of this franchise for awhile now and were greatly anticipating this prequel. We left the kids at home and headed to the theater with high hopes!
This movie does not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline (which parallels actual events in history, something that always delights this history buff!) and the actors themselves. I have to admit that I was very interested in watching Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique (I am a big Hunger Games fan and she is going to play Katniss!). She was excellent and I loved seeing how her relationships with the other characters evolved into what we presently know them to become in “future” X-Men movies.
There were a few fun cameos, but I’m going to let you be surprised.
Is this movie family friendly? I’m going to say it depends. It depends on the age and maturity of your children. I would not take my children (ages 2 and 4) to see this movie. There is very little profanity, but there is at least one F-bomb (I have to admit it was very well timed and got a bit of a chuckle out of me) and plenty of violence.
That said, if your children are older, you’ll have to make the judgement call. I’d say if you are comfortable letting them watch the other movies in the series, you will not have a problem having them watch X-Men: First Class.
Otherwise, leave the kids at home and make it a date night. Even this self proclaimed chick flick fan enjoyed X-Men First Class!
Adult Rating: Enjoyable for adults!
Family Rating: Parental Judgement Call necessary. Some profanity and some violence.
