I like to think I’m a pretty good disciplinarian.

I discipline my kids consistently when I need to.

In fact, I bet they would say I’m GREAT at being a disciplinarian ;) .

However, there’s one person I consistently struggle with disciplining.

Myself.

Sure, I have great discipline in some areas of my life.

I always make sure I get enough sleep. The consequences of too little sleep require me to be disciplined about going to bed on time.

I bathe, brush my teeth, take care of my hygiene without much thought. The consequences of not showering mean my hair is greasy and gross. The consequences of not brushing my teeth mean I have horrible breath all day.

However, what about those things in life that DO NOT have immediate consequences? Where I lack discipline because the result of letting things go isn’t so immediate?

√ I don’t work out consistently. Miss a day? NO big deal. Miss a week? It’s not going to kill you. Miss a year? That’s when you really see how it all added up.

√ I overeat far too often. This is not a big deal for one meal. Probably not a big deal for 2 meals. But over time, all those indulgences can really add up!

That’s why, when I heard one of my favorite bloggers had put out a series entitled: 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life, I knew I wanted to take one of those 2 habits and really work at it.

The only problem? I wasn’t disciplined enough to keep up with the series! Oh boy!

Well thankfully Crystal Paine (of Money Saving Mom) decided to release 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life in ebook format. This is what I need.

She’s made it easy for us! All the information is in one easy to read e-book. No excuses. You just go through day by day and work on those areas of your life that you struggle with discipline.

For me, that’s over eating and not exercising for now.

In time, I think I’ll also work on keeping the house clean and organizing my schedule weekly, but first things first!

Do you want to join me on this challenge to lead a more disciplined life?

Well, first off…Crystal has offered to give FIVE Family Friendly Frugality readers a FREE copy of 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life!

This will be a one day giveaway and I’ll be choosing a winner tomorrow via Random.org.

I lack discipline in the area of cleaning my home and getting a solid routine down. I always am putting together “game plans” and I never follow through with them or they just do not work. I’ve gotten the attitude at times where I say, “why clean but it will just keep getting dirty”. Horrible attitude, I know. I also have a problem with paper. I guess I am a paper hoarder because I have piles upon piles of paper. Much of which can be tossed but I have a problem with throwing them away. Paper is the most clutter I have in my home. Like I said cleaning is where I fail. It is not so much things being clean because I do clean it’s more of the clutter of items on almost every surface that is available in the house.

Before I had kids, I was really organized and on top of my finances. For one reason or another, I have lost that somewhere and desperately need to get back on track now that my daughter is in kinder b/c it added about 50 more things I need to take care of, lol!!!! I guess most of us have been there but that is where I need more discipline in my life.

I struggle with doing anything for myself , I need to learn to set aside time for myself to excercise so that my medical problems are not so bad and I feel better with exercise. I need to disipline myself that it is ok to prepare food for myself that I like to eat such as veggies and salads whether my family likes them or not, if I like them than I can eat them as they make me more healthy. I need to disipline myself to relax and find out what I enjoy and then go do it.
My family and I both benefit when I can take care of myself

One of which is staying on track with my budget, that’s so hard in this economy. another is my time management and sticking to a routine. And of course i need to be more disciplined in eating healthier and exercising. of course these are just a fee of the many things i need to work on. :)

Since I started back to work (working the graveyard shift) my world has been turned upside down. I get some things accomplished but not as much as I used to. With 3 kids ages 7,10 and 17, activities, school, housework, remodeling, keeping up w financials, work, etc its hard to keep focused and get everything accomplished. I have a wonderful husband that helps me with things but i wish i could get down a good routine amd stick to it.

-Not eating out so much (Like you said with your comment about exercise.. “it’s just this once!” becomes “it’s just this week!”..next thing you know, I’ve spent $200 on lunches and coffee for the month!
-Getting rid of the excess (Maybe I’ll someday wear that shirt I haven’t worn yet so let’s keep it around!)
-Being more active (Not slaving away for hours at the gym persay, but just getting out and about instead of snuggling on the couch!)

I am undisciplined in taking care if myself. I do not exercise nor do I watch what I eat. I have slightly elevated blood pressure and definitely could help myself by losing (a lot) weight. I love my kids and foster kids (we have 8 kids at home right now) and I devote the majority of my time and energy to them leaving me with little to no time to care for myself. I need to find a better balance.

What is it within us that make some people able to master the art of self discipline while other struggle. I’m in hope that there is an answer out there somewhere.
