This “recipe” isn’t really a recipe though.
Mainly it’s just a colorful cup full of yummy fresh fruit!
I was inspired by some cute rainbow fruit skewers I found on Pinterest.
It wasn’t working out well on the skewers and I had some clear glass plastic cups left over from this strawberry shortcake recipe, so I decided to layer the fruit instead.
I cut all the fruit bite sized (except the grapes…I did not cut the grapes) and layered it into the glass in this order:
- purple grapes
- blueberries
- green grapes
- melon
- pineapple
- strawberries (on top!)
I actually made these for my daughter’s birthday party and believe it or not, they were the first thing gone!

They were so colorful and fun. They’d give a great pop of color and a bit of healthy to an otherwise not so healthy appetizer spread!

Our daughter’s birthdays are September & May. I liked being able to take advantage of fresh fruit in season, offering a fresh fruit cup for their birthday treat for their class/sports team.
That’s a great idea. Fruit is a great sweet treat that you don’t have to feel guilty about!
Could you please share how many ounces were the plastic cups used for the fruit cups. I want to replicate but don’t know if I should get 4oz or 5.5. My daughter’s party is next week so would love your reply soon. Thx!
I’m pretty sure they were 4 oz? I’ve actually used various sizes, but I *think* the ones I took pictures of for this occasion were 4 oz and I am pretty sure I got them at party city. Good luck! Hope that helps!
Thanks so much! That’s exactly what I plan to get. So cute I can’t pass it up.
Did you make these night before or would the fruit not look so pretty?
I made them the morning of. I’m not sure the fruit would look as pretty if you did it the night before!
This is such a cute idea! I plan to make these for my daughter’s birthday party next weekend. Did the kids eat the fruit with forks or with their fingers?
We had forks and spoons, but lets be honest, most kids just shook the fruit into their mouths, LOL
I put 2 frilly toothpicks in each cup so they could make a choice to use fingers or the toothpick.
Love that idea!
Such a cute idea! How did you decide how much fruit you needed to fill the cups?
I just gauged it based on how much fruit I could afford to buy at the time within our party budget! LOL
How many cups were you able to fill? I plan on getting bulk of each fruit from Costco so I’m hoping I can make a lot. I want to make these cups for my drive through baby shower
